BIPV: what is it?

BIPV stands for Building Integrated Photovoltaics. It refers to the integration of photovoltaic materials into various building components, replacing traditional materials in parts of the building envelope such as roofs, skylights, or facades.

BIPV systems capture sunlight, both direct and indirect, to convert it into energy. They can be crafted in a wide range of sizes, shapes, colors, and textures, offering endless customization options. This capability enhances aesthetic appeal while ensuring architectural integration with energy and environmental sustainability.

Solar energy is unlimited, safe, clean, and free: it is the only truly “social” green energy source, accessible to everyone. Today, it is within reach for anyone who wishes to use it.

Thanks to BIPV, buildings transform into small, autonomous power plants that are often self-sufficient. These systems provide an extraordinary and innovative solution to decarbonize our nation’s real estate assets, aiming for climate neutrality through socially responsible energy sustainability.

HOW DOES BIPV WORK ?

Moreover, the solutions for installing BIPV are highly sustainable. Options include facades, veranda systems, bio-climatic structures, balaustras, balconies, roof skylights, roof tiles, carports, and more. These integrate seamlessly into existing structures, making BIPV a versatile and eco-friendly choice

BIPV – A socio-energy re(e)volution

The urgent need – no longer postponable – to decarbonise buildings (NetZero) and make them sustainable and productive is transforming the concept of “building envelope”: from a passive barrier to a sensitive and active energy interface.

“Architectural photovoltaics” integrated into buildings (BIPV-Building Integrated PhotoVoltaics) is the only solution – truly ethical and democratic – that allows citizens to independently obtain decentralized electricity for self-consumption. That is, “on site”, at “zero km” without being transferred (partly dispersed), managed and redistributed. A formidable socio-energetic re(e)volution.

BIPV therefore transforms building surfaces into active and absolutely convenient and sustainable solar collectors, both from an economic and environmental point of view. This innovative solar collection system which produces energy by exploiting vertical building surfaces already built and unused, or to be designed and built, does not occupy land and avoids further land consumption. The countryside must be cultivated to produce food, not electricity.

Extraordinary advantages and benefits

Thanks to BIPV, sunlight, a renewable and “social” source par excellence (as well as a “primary good” and “universal heritage”) is “decentralised”, providing unlimited, clean, safe and free energy. And free (after a short amortization period of installation costs)! Available to all and usable by all: individual citizens and communities.

BIPV also offers other extraordinary advantages and benefits:

  • in addition to not consuming land, it transforms every property (residential, commercial or productive) into a power plant that supplies electricity at zero km;
  • adds aesthetic and architectural value to buildings;
  • redevelops a property park – ours – which is now old;
  • improves the urban fabric (often degraded) and restores decorum to many residential areas;
  • increases the value of properties;
  • it is a formidable ally for a “quality” and democratic energy transition in the fight against climate change;
  • contributes to the protection of the planet and the survival of living beings.
